REGIONAL GRANTS

The WATLF Committee are pleased to offer regional grants of $500 for staff to attend the WATLF 2024. Applicants will be required to email info@wateachingandlearningforum.org with their EOI, including their staff details and proof of address in order to be considered. This map provides a guide to regional areas that may be considered, however if you are unsure please email us.

Shocks and Solutions in Higher Education: 

Shocks caused by the use and misuse of AI, the lingering aftereffects post-pandemic, and the underinvestment in universities and fiscal constraints placed on teaching and service delivery. Solutions in terms of innovation, best-practice, and sustainable ‘whole-of-university’ approaches to distinctly 21st century problems. Authentic Teaching and Learning in a Technology Rich World. The changing student demographics and the need for more inclusive policies and practices in supporting and teaching underrepresented cohorts.


CALL FOR PRESENTATION PROPOSALS ARE NOW CLOSED

About the speaker

Professor Kerri-Lee Krause (PhD, PFHEA, FSRHE) is Vice-Chancellor at Avondale University and Honorary Professorial Fellow, Centre for the Study of Higher Education, The University of Melbourne. She holds the Australian Government Ministerial appointment of Deputy Chair, Higher Education Standards Panel and leads the national Advisory Committee on the Transparency of Higher Education Admissions. She is an experienced university executive with over 30 years’ experience in public universities. As Vice-Chancellor of Australia’s newest independent university, she enjoys the challenge of applying lessons learned over many years of leading sector-level quality enhancement initiatives and university-wide organisational renewal. Professor Krause is internationally recognised for her contributions to higher education policy research and practice.


Dr. David Kellermann

About the speaker

David Kellermann is Associate Professor and Deputy Head of School at the School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at UNSW Sydney. When his education hat is on, David is known for his use of technology in face-to-face and remote classroom settings to enhance student engagement and learning. He has worked in a broad range of education and ed-tech problems, including digital identity, collaborative learning, mapping of professional skills, human-centered artificial intelligence, digital ink, cyber-physical interactive experiences, digital learning communities, conversational agents (AKA bots), predictive analytics using machine learning, tailored learning using AI, automated grading, remote learning, modern digital classrooms, augmented reality for virtual laboratories, remote examination built on trust, deep integration of the Digital Campus, programmatic skills tracking, student retention, quality education at scale, and more. His most recent efforts have been in addressing the challenges of the post-pandemic university, particularly with the recent launch of his Digital Teaching Studio, which brings a level of digital embodiment and hybrid collaboration to a teaching space that is elegant and effortless to use. David has worked around the world for universities and tech companies in both collaborative projects and on second, always seeking to learn, share, and be inspired.

 

 

Additional information:

 

David’s research specializes in the continuum and computational mechanics of advanced structural materials such as carbon fiber reinforced plastics and biological tissue. He is the course convenor and lecturer for the largest foundational first- and second-year engineering subjects (Engineering Mechanics and the Mechanics of Solids), teaching over 1,000 students each year.
